Sundance Film Festival, America’s premier independent film festival, is your chance to see the best independent films before they make it big.
The Sundance Institute was founded by actor and director Robert Redford in 1981. The goal of the organization is to provide a space for artists in film, theater and new media to create and have their work discovered by a wider audience.
In addition to the film screenings, the calendar also includes panel discussions, music programming and the New Frontier exhibition of new media. The climax of the 10-day festival is the Awards Ceremony, when a jury of individuals from throughout the film industry vote for the best dramatic and documentary films. The date for the 2017 awards ceremony has yet to be announced, but will be available at this link. The awards are known for opening up independent films to a wider audience, including Whiplash, Beasts of the Southern Wild and Winter’s Bone.
The ticket to get is the Express Pass, which is only available to Sundance Circle members. You can join by making a donation to the institute here. The Express Pass, which is sold separately for the first half and the second half of the festival, includes access to all screenings, priority entrance, one official photo credential and one ticket to the Awards Party (for those with a ticket for the second half).
